Welcome to Soul Shakha

about soul shakha

Soul Shakha was born on the banks of the River Ganges in Rishikesh, where my vision to become a teacher was brought to life. The name Soul Shakha (Shakha meaning home) refers to both the body in which we move through life and the journey coming home to our essence, our Soul, through the experience of meditation.

I aim to empower my students and community to find inner stability and live a more fulfilled life. Teaching with compassion, joy and wisdom, I provide a space for students to be curious about exploring their inner and outer worlds, weaving ancient Vedic knowledge with light-hearted and relatable experiences.

MEET YOUR TEACHER

I learnt Vedic Meditation in 2017 to help me through a challenging period in my life. After over 15 years in the mining industry in Western Australia, I was burnt out from the fly-in, fly-out mining life. After experiencing a significant relationship breakdown and my father's passing, I wasn’t well in many aspects of my life.

After a chance recommendation from a friend, on a whim, I attended a four-day beginner’s course in Vedic Meditation. For the first time in years, I had more purpose and mental clarity, and my thoughts were less judgy self-deprecating, and I felt more able to cope with life’s demands, process my grief and deal with the daily stresses of FIFO life.

my journey

I completed my VM teacher training in early 2020, and it was at the foothills of the Himalayas in the weeks after completing this course that the name of my business was conceived.

Sitting by the Ganga, watching cleansing and purifying waters lap at my feet with the sunbeams sparkling in my eyes, it was hard not to be inspired and to truly realise the Self in those glorious moments in nature.

From those moments, I knew I wanted to be an exemplar for shining the light, sharing this Vedic wisdom and teaching this glorious technique to my community in Western Australia and beyond.

  • No previous meditation experience at all is required to learn Vedic Meditation.

  • Other types of meditation generally involve concentration (focusing the mind) or contemplation (thinking about the meaning of something) - both of which keep the mind active. Vedic meditation is a completely effortless technique that de-excites the mind in a natural way, without using any effort or attempting to control thoughts.

  • Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was a revered spiritual teacher from the Shankaracharya lineage in India. Krista’s teacher, Thom Knoles, was trained as a Transcendental Meditation (“TM”) teacher by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and taught it for over 25 years with organisations affiliated with Maharishi. Since 1997, Thom has continued to teach meditation as he learned it from Maharishi and has done so independently and separately from the TM organisations.

Thom Knoles trained Krista to teach meditation as Maharishi trained him to teach meditation. Krista teaches Vedic meditation and is not affiliated with the TM organisations or their current services, processes or programs. However, if you have learned Transcendental Meditation, you can speak to Krista about joining her regular Group Meditations.

  • That’s completely okay. If it helps, I thought the same thing before being taught this technique. I was very much in my head about not being ‘fixable’ or that I couldn’t possibly sit for 20 minutes twice a day! All normal concerns.

What helped me was asking many questions in the free introductory talk, which you must attend before joining the four-day beginner’s course. The course is taught in a dynamic and relatable way, where you are encouraged to ask questions, enabling you to become completely self-sufficient in your practice by the end of the four days. • No, Vedic Meditation is not religious, and you don’t need any particular beliefs to work. It is a powerful relaxation technique that originated thousands of years ago.
